Closure of Galleries in National Museum of Singapore

News

SINGAPORE, 30 July 2014 – The National Museum of Singapore will be closing its Singapore History Gallery, Singapore Living Galleries and Goh Seng Choo Gallery over the coming months for the next phase of its major revamp. The first phase saw the launch of PLAY @ National Museum of Singapore – a multi-sensory museum wing dedicated to children ages 3 to 7.

The revamp hopes to present a more comprehensive overview of the ‘Singapore Story’, and celebrate the multiple voices in the nation’s historical narrative and the many facets of our multicultural “everyday heritage” in its galleries and spaces as the nation approaches its 50th year of independence.

During the closure of the galleries, visitors can continue to enjoy several exhibitions and programmes such as Balik Pulau: Stories from Singapore’s Islands (till 10 August), Genesis by Sebastião Salgado and We: Defining Stories (both, till 31 August), Singapura: 700 Years (28 Oct 2014 to mid 2015) and the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct’s much loved annual event, the Singapore Night Festival on 22, 23, 29 and 30 August, just to name a few. Food and Beverage outlets as well as the Museum Label shop will continue to function as usual.  Please check www.nationalmuseum.sg for further details on upcoming exhibitions and programmes.

The specific dates for gallery closures are as follows:

Gallery Closure date
Fashion Gallery 11 August 2014
Film & Wayang Gallery 18 August 2014
Food Gallery, Photography Gallery, and Goh Seng Choo Gallery 29 September 2014
Singapore History Gallery 3 November 2014
